Can smoking cause a persons white blood cell count be too high?

My family doctor has referred me to an Oncologist after results of 5 consecutive blood test showed that my white cell count was too high. The Oncologist says that smoking cigarettes is probably the cause. I’ve never heard that before. Can it be causing my problem?

Are Cigarettes a Habit or Addiction

It gives me added! If I try to go over a couple of hours without a cigarette Shakey and i start getting nervous and irritable. Drugs are addictive. You know how when people (not me) are on drugs when they do not have any, they receive all nervous and Shakey? this is how I am when I need a cigarette!
