List of 599 Ingredients and Additives in a cigarette?

Cigarette Ingredients And Additives

Cigarette Ingredients And Additives

The list of 599 additives approved by the US Government for use in the manufacture of cigarettes is something every smoker should see. Submitted by the five major American cigarette companies to the Dept. of Health and Human Services in April of 1994, this list of ingredients had long been kept a secret.

Tobacco companies reporting this information were:

American Tobacco Company
Brown and Williamson
Liggett Group, Inc.
Philip Morris Inc.

R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company While these ingredients are approved as additives for foods, they were not tested by burning them, and it is the burning of many of these substances which changes their properties, often for the worse. Over 4000 chemical compounds are created by burning a cigarette, many of which are toxic and/or carcinogenic. Carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen cyanide and ammonia are all present in cigarette smoke. Forty-three known carcinogens are in mainstream smoke, sidestream smoke, or both.

It’s chilling to think about not only how smokers poison themselves, but what others are exposed to by breathing in the secondhand smoke. The next time you’re missing your old buddy, the cigarette, take a good long look at this list and see them for what they are: a delivery system for toxic chemicals and carcinogens.

Cigarettes offer people only a multitude of smoking-related diseases and ultimately death.

Stop With Smoking Now! :)

Small Business Owners Stave Off Anti-Smoking Laws Temporarily in Missouri

Well, it seems like this economic crunch everyone seems to be fearing and talking about has swayed legislators once again. This time, it’s your own health that’s been subverted in the interest of small business. It’s your lungs that have been traded for a “better bottom line”. Isn’t capitalism just perfect?

It appears as though a Jackson County judge on Wednesday temporarily postponed Kansas City’s impending ban on cigarette smoking in bars and restaurants, in an obvious effort to reduce the impact felt on small business during our economic slump. The prohibition on smoking in all Kansas City bars and restaurants, which voters approved April 8, had been scheduled to take effect Saturday. So…what happened?

Nine establishments sued to challenge that law, and Circuit Judge John O’Malley issued a temporary restraining order Wednesday preventing enforcement until he could hold a hearing June 20 to hear the details of the lawsuit. In the meantime, the city’s existing smoking restrictions remain in effect. Those restrictions, approved earlier this year by the City Council, allow smoking in bars but prohibit it in restaurants without liquor licenses. For restaurants with liquor licenses, smoking is allowed after 9 p.m. if all the patrons in the restaurant are age 21 or older.

The more stringent voter-approved measure, if upheld, supplants the council version.

Under both versions, smoking is still allowed on casino gaming floors, although under the voter-approved law, smoking would be banned from the gaming floors in Kansas City’s two casinos as soon as the same prohibitions apply to other metro area casinos.

The lawsuit was filed by owners of several bars, a steakhouse, a tobacco shop and a bowling center who believe the smoking ban will put them at a severe economic disadvantage to the casinos and to establishments in nearby cities that still allow smoking.

So it appears there will need to be a certain “lead-and-follow” approach to this legislation. If this is truly going to be fair for small business, there needs to be a standard for all entertainment and restaurant establishments. Mom and Pop businesses should not suffer without a fairness uniformity throughout for all establishments.

In the meantime, it would still behoove all of us who still smoke to not rely on the “last minute appeals” to save us and our antiquated habits. Start conditioning yourself to be tobacco-free. Don’t wait until you are the last person standing with a cigarette in your mouth before you start to consider your health. The small business owners have won a temporary battle. We can only hope that the Jackson county judge rules in favor of the ordinance in the near future, for the sake of our lungs, if nothing else.

12 Steps To Stop Smoking

Methods of Give Up Smoking

1. Believe in yourself. Believe you will be able to give up smoking. Recollect the most difficult challenges you faced and realize that you have a will power and determination to give up smoking. Everything depends on you.

2. Put in writing all the reasons why you want to give up smoking (advantages of life without smoking): to live longer, feel yourself better, for your family, save money, smell better, easier to find a partner, etc. You know what is bad in smoking and what you ll get resisting it. Write all these things on the paper and read every day.

3. Ask your relatives and friends to support you in your decision to give up smoking. Ask them for a complete support and patience. Let them know beforehand that you may be nervous or even irritating during the period of getting rid this addiction.

4. Set a date of your finishing of smoking. Take a decision in what day you will quit smoking forever. Put this date in writing. Plan it beforehand. Get prepared your brains to *the first day of your new life*. You even can hold a special ceremony due to your last cigarette or the morning of the date of your refusal of smoking.

5. Talk to your doctor about your refusal of smoking. The support and set received from your doctor is a proved method to enhance your chances for success.

6. Begin to do exercises. Sport is incompatible with smoking. Exercises distress and help your body to recover from damage caused by smoking. In case of necessity, begin with a short walks once or twice a day. Then increase these up 30-40 minutes exercises 3 or 4 times a week. Before you take up any exercises consult your doctor.

7. Do deep breathing exercises during 3-5 minutes every day. Breathe in through your nose slowly, then outwind for several seconds and breathe out through the mouth. Try to practice these breathing exercises with closed eyes.

8. Decrease the number of cigarettes gradually (if you decrease the number of cigarettes, certainly you should specify the date when you refuse of smoking COMPLETELY). Methods of gradual refusal of smoking are as follows: planning of the number of smoked cigarettes for every day up to the finishing of smoking, decreasing the number of smoked cigarettes daily, purchasing of cigarettes in the quantity no more than a pack, substitution by another brand of cigarettes in order not to enjoy the process of smoking.

9. Try to give up smoking forever. Many of smokers tried on themselves that the only way to resist smoking is to give up abruptly and completely without any attempts of decreasing of the number of smoked cigarettes. Nevertheless, find the very methods that will be the most convenient for you: giving up smoking gradually or abruptly. If one of the methods hasnt worked, try another one.

10. Find a partner for you another smoker who wants to give up smoking too. Cheer up each other, go to each other every time when you feel that you cant resist. Visit our forum or enter our chart, there you will find some help for sure.

11. Clean your teeth thoroughly. Pay attention to how quickly their state is enhanced and how there are whitening. Imagine yourself and enjoy the idea of how they look in a month, three months or year.

12. Drink a lot of water. In any case water is good for your health and the majority of people dont drink it in enough quantity. Water will help you to *wash out* nicotine and other chemicals from your body; moreover it will help you to lessen your desire for cigarettes, satisfying your *mouth demands*.

We wish to succeed in your determination to give up smoking! This is worth it!
